The Big Picture
Something’s erupting on Hawai‘i Island, and it is not lava. It is cans and cans of paint! The old Naniloa Hotel is slowly being morphed into what will be a “living gallery,” courtesy of Hilo born and Los Angeles-based artist, Kristie Fujiyama Kosmides. Kosmides is helping to renovate the property by adding artistic elements for future guests to enjoy. Unlike typical hotels, which have art walks or art on loan, the artist has the unique opportunity to refresh and repaint the entire 375-room property as her own personal gallery and canvas. If you don’t want to wait for the hotel’s grand re-opening and wish to see art in the making, you can catch Kosmides painting live at the upcoming fundraiser, “Sensory Perception,” for Kanu Hawaii, on December 10th. miyokos.com.
